THE head of policing in Radcliffe has revealed that incidents of crime in the town are falling.

Inspector Bryn Williams told the Radcliffe Local Area Partnership that crime dropped by 8.8 per cent from April to June this year, when compared to the same period last year.

Speaking at the meeting last Thursday, held at Radcliffe Civic Suite, Insp Williams said that there were 513 crimes in the last quarter, against 579 last year.

Although the amount of anti-social behaviour has remained steady at around 620 incidents, the level of criminal damage has fallen from 230 to 188 incidents. There were 61 burglaries from dwellings in 2006, which has fallen to 55 this year, with half of those committed in Radcliffe West.

Theft from motor vehicles has dropped from 90 to 83, with half of the incidents in the Radcliffe East ward, and theft of motor vehicles has fallen from 46 to 34. Of those, 18 incidents took place in Radcliffe North.

The number of robberies in Radcliffe has fallen from 12 to eight, with recent incidents including Ainsworth Post Office and Ashby stores in Coronation Road.
