PRIMARY school pupils are well on their way to becoming financial whizzkids by running their very own bank. With the help of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), St Saviours Primary School in Ringley has opened a school bank for its pupils.

It is run by a group of children who successful applied for the posts of bank manager, account opening manager, and marketing manager, and have received cashier training.

All pupils will be able to open an account and pay in money, as well as receive regular statements.

The school, in Fold Road, hopes the initiative will allow the children to learn the basics of money management and the benefits of saving money.

RBS coach Jane Fairweather, who helped to set up the school bank, said: "The importance of financial capability for young people cannot be underestimated, as it's essential that they are equipped with the skills and confidence required to make decisions in adult life. Once these young people go out into the world of work and start earning money, it is important they know what to do with it.

"As a result I'm delighted that RBS has been able to help St Saviours Primary School in ensuring that their pupils will be better prepared for the time when they have to manage their own finances."
