PLANS for two new children's centres in the borough have been delayed after councillors decided to visit the proposed sites.

St Stephen's Primary School, in Bury, and Butterstile Primary School, in Prestwich, both hope to construct a single-storey building to house a range of services.

There are already three children's centres - two in Bury and one in Ribble Drive, Whitefield - with more planned across the borough.

A large number of people attended Bury Town Hall for Tuesday's meeting of the planning control committee, where the matters were set to be considered.

But because of residents' objections to the plans, councillors agreed to defer their decisions.

They will visit the schools on August 21 and make their decisions at the committee meeting due to be held later that day.
