A DERELICT pub on a Bury estate is set to be replaced with new houses and apartments.

The Thrush Hotel, in Thrush Drive, has been attacked by firebugs and vandals since it closed several years ago.

Eight houses and six apartments will be built in its place after councillors gave the go-ahead at a planning committee meeting held at Bury Town Hall on Tuesday.

A letter was sent to the committee by Moorside councillor Keith Rothwell, stating that he supported the regeneration proposals.

Fellow ward councillor Peter Ashworth, a member of the committee, also backed the plans. He said: "It's a very derelict site and the majority of people don't want it to re-open as a public house. This would look like an ideal replacement."

Councillors voted unanimously to approve the planning application.
