IT was Members' Night when the ladies of Greenmount Evening WI met for their July meeting and Mrs Margot Williams had invited Kathy Lewis to come along and tell us how she had begun her career as a singer on board cruise ships.

It was also an evening for celebrations - Mrs Beatrice Sellers, the founder of Greenmount Evening WI, was presented with her certificate for forty years' WI membership and Mrs Edith Cheetham was congratulated on her 65th Wedding Anniversary. Both ladies received baskets of flowers arranged by Mrs Margaret Davies, and a celebration cake was there for us all to enjoy....along with the supper of Bucks Fizz, shortcake and strawberries which Mrs Williams had organised.

There was, of course, the business side of the meeting to be dealt with and this included being given a programme of events from Lancashire Federation,a report on the AGM in London from our delegate, Mrs Diane Goldberg, the venues for the forthcoming weekly walks from Mrs Isabel Heaton and it might only be July but we were reminded that next month we have to place our orders for 2008 calendars and diaries!

The title of the talk to be given by Miss Marilyn Dearden at the August meeting is "The People of Pelican Narrows". If you would like to join us for this we meet at Canon Lewis Hall, Longsight Rd, Greenmount on Thursday, August 16th and our starting time is 7.45pm.
