MR Terry Ashworth was the guest speaker at the latest meeting of St. Paul's Ladies Group.
Mr Ashworth, who is a member of both the East Lancashire Railway and the Bury Cine Society, showed the official film of the reopening of the railway line from Bury to Ramsbottom.
This event took place on July 25, 1987, with the Mayor of Bury and the then MP Mr Alistair Burt in attendance. After the reopening of the line a new station was built at Ramsbottom.
The next phase involved the line from Ramsbottom to Rawtenstall which opened via Irwell Vale in 1991. This was a day of great celebration with the Mayors of Bury and Rossendale, a town crier, and North West television recording the event.
Finally, a new section of track running between Bury and Heywood was added in September 2003 and other sections are in the pipeline.
The railway now hosts numerous activities bringing together the towns it serves including the Santa Specials, Thomas the Tank Engine events and the Wartime Weekends.
Mrs Brenda Stowe gave a vote of thanks to the speaker for a very interesting evening.
