MP Ivan Lewis has demonstrated his continuing commitment to Home-Start Bury by agreeing to become its patron.
The Bury South MP, who helped launch the scheme in 1999, said he will support the organisation in its bid to secure new funding. He gave the assurance during a visit to Home-Start's offices at the Bury Business Centre in Kay Street.
According to Home-Start, one in four children aged up to five in the UK have a difficult start in life because their families are under pressure.
Home-Start believes that parents play the key role in ensuring that children have a happy and secure childhood, but even the most dedicated parents can face challenges that prevent them from doing all they want for their children. Home-Start supports parents as they grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links with the community.
The organisation's volunteers, who are usually parents themselves, offer friendship and informal support to parents through its network of 54 local parent volunteers.
The Bury South MP commented: "Home-Start is an excellent organisation which makes a difference to many local families who need emotional and practical support. I am delighted to support them in their bid for new sources of funding and believe they have a very bright future at the heart of our community"
If anyone is interested in becoming part of the Home-Start team, either as a home-visiting volunteer or part of the management committee, they can contact Home-Start's office on (0161) 763 6335.
