A BURY man deliberately mowed down by a car has had to have metal plates inserted in his leg.

The 20-year old underwent major surgery on his shattered left leg following the incident earlier this month.

The victim was walking along Tennyson Avenue when he was attacked by a man with a metal bar.

Both men brawled before the offender got into the driver's seat of a silver Ford Focus. He was pursued by the victim who managed to smash the front side window of the offender's car.

The offender and a female accomplice drove onto Manchester Road but then turned round and drove at speed towards the victim, striking him. The car was driven off down Tennyson Road onto an estate.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the incident, which happened at 9pm on Tuesday, July 10, and released descriptions of a man and a woman wanted in connection with the hit-and-run attack.

The male offender is said to be white, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, 5ft 8ins, of medium build, with short, light-coloured hair and a big nose. The female is described as white with long, ginger hair and wore a blue tracksuit top.

Anyone who has seen a silver Ford Focus with a smashed window and possibly damage to the front, or has any information about the assault, is asked to contact police on (0161) 856 8248 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
