POLICE are poised to issue more ASBOs in Ramsbottom as new figures show they are beginning to make progress in the battle against anti-social behaviour.

Complaints of anti-social behaviour in Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor have dropped by nine per cent.

Police recorded 536 complaints throughout April, May and June, compared with 589 in the same period last year.

Inspector Bryn Williams told a meeting of Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor Local Area Partnership that the figures showed police were making headway. He said the drop in complaints had been achieved through the issue of two anti-social behaviour orders, acceptable behaviour contracts and Six Town Housing's warnings to families in Peel Brow over youngsters' behaviour. He said more ASBOs against individual troublemakers were the way forward. He told councillors: "I'm hoping for many more ASBOs in Ramsbottom. For the first time since I started the job inSeptember I'm confident that we're starting to see some progress.

"I hope people are feeling the difference. I think we've turned a corner. We still need to get (the figures) down a bit further but I'm optimistic."
