POLICE have today uncovered a fourth cannabis farm in as many weeks in the town - two of them in the same street.
Around 400 mature cannabis plants worth thousands of pounds were discovered at 11am at a house in Lichfield Drive. A male, of Oriental origin, was arrested at the scene.
United Utilities electricians were called in to make the property safe after the meter had been bi-passed. It is estimated approximately £7,000 of electricity had been used over the past six months.
It is the second time in seven days a drugs farm has been discovered in Lichfield Drive. Since the beginning of July, cannabis farms have been located in Overbrook Drive and Highfield Road, all Prestwich.
Ironically, the garden of today's raided house overlooks the carpark of Greater Manchester Police's training college at Sedgley.
Four rooms on the first floor were packed with plants while the ground floor lounge and middle living room were also used.
An elaborate and sophisticated system of lights and heat had been set to help cultivagte the drug.
