I fully agree with the comments regarding the bus lanes (Bury Times July 12). I travel regularly to Bury along Bolton Road and the congestion each morning has become much worse since the introduction of bus lanes.
I queue from as far back as Mile Lane (together with the 471 bus) and this situation will not improve when all the schools and colleges restart in September. The bus lanes are constantly full of vehicles whose owners totally disregard the signs and this makes it almost impossible, for those of us who abide by the regulations, to rejoin the inside lane each time the bus lane ends.
I cannot imagine how these bus lanes are supposed to ease the flow for public transport, as the buses also have to queue further before being able to use the lane and they then have to contend with those motorists who choose to ignore the signs. Since the introduction of the bus lanes I have only once seen a police car monitoring the situation.
