A MAN from Ramsbottom who owns an example of the smallest car in the world is appealing for witnesses after he was involved in a hit and run incident.
As reported last week, Mark Trippier (30) owns a Peel P50, the smallest road-legal car in the world. But it was his family's larger Land Rover that was on the receiving end at Angouleme Way Retail Park, Bury, at about 2pm on Sunday.
Mark, wife Ruth and daughter Hettie, aged two, had been shopping and were getting back into the Land Rover when a red R' reg Peugeot 306 driven by a woman with white hair hit the open passenger-side door, knocking it into Ruth.
Mark said: "It knocked the car door into Ruth's back, making her drop Hettie into the car. The driver stopped for a few seconds while I made sure Ruth and Hettie were all right but as I started walking towards her she drove off."
Mark chased the female driver on foot and then in a taxi before losing sight of the red Peugeot at the Rochdale Road roundabout.
He said: "I can't believe the woman drove off. Ruth is really shook up and has hurt her back. The door could have crushed her."
