BURY is home to four of the best schools in the country, it has been revealed.

Holy Cross College, Bury Grammar School Girls and Boys and Lowercroft Primary School have been ranked in the best 2,000 schools in the UK, according to Parent Power, The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2018.

The rankings for the guide are based on exam results, with secondary schools and sixth forms ranked according to the percentages of pupils achieving A*-B grade A-levels, and A*-A grade GCSEs, and primary school rankings based on SAT results.

Jo Anderson, Principal and Headmistress of Bury Grammar School Girls, said: "We are always delighted when our pupils’ achievements are recognised.

"At Bury Grammar School we offer an excellent all-round education which allows our pupils to thrive in so many different areas and league tables can give you an insight into the quality of education offered."

David Frost, Headteacher at Holy Cross, said: "We are delighted to have done well in the Sunday Times table of Sixth Form Colleges.

"However this particular table ranks colleges only on the proportion receiving AAB or better in 8 subject areas known as the ‘facilitating subjects’.

"One of our strengths is that we offer four times this number of subject areas – many more than schools can usually offer - and if these are included our performance is even more impressive, rising from 8% of students gaining AAB or better to over 17% gaining AAB or better. Indeed, almost half of all our students gain what are known as ‘high grades’ (A*, A and B)"

"What is more, 8 of our students gained Oxford or Cambridge places, joining over 46 of our students going there over the last 5 years.

"Indeed, we are the 6th college nationally for university progression, and the 2nd in the north west.

"From this wealth of experience we are able to advise students to study a good mix of facilitating and other subjects, to suit both university and career priorities and their wide range of interests and talents."
