WEEKLY bin collections are here to stay, say local Conservative leaders.
They have welcomed the findings of a cross-party committee of MPs that fortnightly grey bin collections are not suitable for many areas. Councillor Dorothy Gunther, Bury Council's executive member in charge of refuse collection, said: "I am not surprised that these MPs have agreed with our stance. We campaigned strongly on this issue throughout the local election campaign and our commitment to maintain weekly grey bin collections received widespread support."
And David Nuttall, Parliamentary candidate for Bury North, added: "While we are strongly promoting recycling throughout the borough, it is essential that all general refuse is collected regularly."
