THE local ambulance service is one of the best in the country for saving heart attack victims.
A new report has placed the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) as the UK's third leading ambulance trust for administering life-saving treatment to heart attack patients before they reach hospital.
The statistics, taken from the Myocardial Infarction National Audit Project report, show that the region's ambulance service is exceeding national targets set for England and Wales by four per cent.
Over the last year nearly 1,000 heart attack patients in the North West have received life- saving clot busting drugs within 60 minutes of calling for help.
