TROUBLE flared at Bury FC's pre-season match against Premiership club Everton last Saturday.

Around 3,000 supporters turned up at Gigg Lane for the friendly which resulted in a few hundred visiting fans invading the pitch and bottles, coins and other others being hurled into the home stands.

Police said the match was given a "low risk" rating but say a number of arrests will now take place following a post-game investigation by football intelligence officers.

Shakers supporters described the actions of Everton fans "a disgrace" while others urged Bury chiefs to bar the Merseyside club from any future friendly games.

One witness said: "I hope the club is going to do something about the few hundred louts that ran onto the pitch and then the 30 or so that decided to throw coins, bottles and other objects at Bury fans in the Main Stand."

Another supporter also saw rival fans smash a bus window on Manchester Road.

Chief Inspector Karan Lee, of Bury Police, confirmed: "Following a number of incidents at the Bury game, an investigation has been launched and a number of Everton supporters will be arrested."
