FOUR in five Prestwich residents oppose the idea for a congestion charge, a petition has claimed.
A survey, conducted by former Holyrood Ward councillor Geoffrey Berg, found that 83 per cent of people living in the Sedgley Ward who were asked said they were against the idea.
If the proposal wins Government backing, motorists would have to pay up to £5 a day to drive in and out of Manchester city centre from 2012.
The petition has been sent to Bury's Conservative Group Leader, councillor Bob Bibby.
