A SPRINKLER system prevented a major blaze at a Bury factory.
The industrial unit at Britannia Mill in Cobden Street was targeted by an arsonist at around 7.30pm last night. The firebug smashed a window and torched a quantity of fabric used to make curtains. The building's sprinkler system activated a short time later and extinguished the flames before fire crews arrived.
Watch commander Alan Topping from Bury fire service said: "The sprinkler system prevented what could have been a large scale fire."
