PRIMARY school teacher Pat Knibb will say a fond farewell to her pupils today as she marks the final day of her career.

For after 26 years of working at St Mary's Primary School in Radcliffe, she is set to start her retirement.

The mother-of-two has taught hundreds of children aged three to five during her years in the school's foundation unit. Born and bred in Salford, she started her career in the city 35 years ago, before moving to St Mary's in 1981.

Her two children attended the Belgrave Street school and she made Radcliffe her home.

But after years of hard work and dedicated service, Mrs Knibb is looking forward to some rest and relaxation.

She said: "I am looking forward to retirement. I have thoroughly loved my time here and I have worked with some really nice children. I am sad to leave, but I'm looking forward to having some time to myself.

"I love gardening and reading, and I'm hoping to travel around a bit and do some walking.

"My husband and I will have time to do whatever we want to now, without being tied to school holidays.

"I'll be able to spend a lot more time with my family and friends as well.

"I will miss all the staff, because there are some great people here. I will miss all the children as well. I'd like to thank everyone and wish them all the best for the future. I've really enjoyed my time here."

A leaving mass and buffet were held at the school on Wednesday evening, when staff members past and present said their goodbyes to Mrs Knibb.
