A TRIO of budding film-makers have won their own version of an Oscar after entering a video competition.

Radcliffe Riverside High School's media club, known as Urban Vibes, filmed the end-of-year proms for pupils at the two campuses last year.

The hours of footage were used to make a DVD for all the students as a reminder of their school days.

The media club - led by 15-year-olds Alicia Shanks, Oliver McDaid and Ben Hardman - then decided to edit the film to create a three-minute trailer for the TCSC Video Awards 2007.

Despite stiff competition from 50 schools across the borough, the Prom Night video came in second place in the best supporting film category for students at key stage three and four.

The students were given a certificate and award to mark their success.

ICT teacher Ms Sue Jones said: "I'm so proud of the students. They worked so hard and have done a fantastic job. They were really pleased to get the award. We're already planning to enter again next year and hope to get more students involved."

And soon after celebrating their success in the awards, the students were hard at work filming this year's prom at the Elizabethan Suite in Bury.

They are now hard at work editing the footage to create a DVD.

Radcliffe Riverside High School is looking for a company wishing to sponsor the Urban Vibes media club. Anyone who is interested can contact Sue Jones on (0161) 723 3110 to find out more.
