WHEN Alice Rigg was born on July 12, 1906, Edward VII was on the throne and the smog of the Industrial Revolution filled the air.
She has seen a lot of changes in her life, but yesterday Miss Rigg celebrated her 101st birthday.
She was joined by her nephews and nieces, as well as staff and residents at Pendle House Nursing Home in Radcliffe, for a party and buffet to mark the milestone.
Alice was born and raised locally before working as a secretary in London for many years prior to her retirement.
She later lived in Droylsden before becoming a resident of the nursing home in School Street in 1992.
She enjoys chatting to fellow residents, listening to her favourite "Rat Pack music", and watching the TV soaps such, including Emmerdale.
Leanne Batten, senior carer and activities co-ordinator, said: "She's a very smiley lady and always very chatty with everyone. She's been here for quite a number of years now, so she has a lot of close friends and gets on with people very well."
