EAGER Beavers sat in the driving seat and sounded the siren during a visit from traffic officers.

As well as learning all about the four-wheel drive vehicles used by traffic officers, the 24 youngsters were told what to do if their parents' car broke down or if they were involved in an accident on the motorway.

They were each given an information pack to take home and learn more about motorway safety.

The traffic officers visited the 2nd Ramsbottom (St Paul and St John) Scout group, which meets in St John's Church Hall, Shuttleworth, as part of celebrations to mark 100 years of the Scout movement.

Their visit proved so popular that group Scout leader Janice Butterworth has already invited them back.

She said: "The children had a wonderful evening and we have asked the officers to come back again next year. It really was an excellent visit."
