A POLICE probe into what caused a fatal car fire in Prestwich is continuing.

Albert Horn, aged 61, of Kings Road, Prestwich, died when a fire broke out in a Volvo Estate car in Castle Hill Road, Prestwich, at 3pm yesterday.

Firefighters and police were called to the scene after neighbours reported hearing a loud bang.

It is not yet clear if the vehicle crashed or if it was stationary when there was an explosion.

A Police spokesman said: "Inquiries are ongoing between police and the fire service to establish the circumstances of how the fire started but, at this stage, do not believe a third party was involved."
