A DUNGEON that dates back to 1835 opened its doors to the public for a special tour on Hallowe’en night.
The historic site in Tottington, next to The Dungeon Inn pub in Turton Road, was opened by The Tottington Society from 5pm until 10pm.
It used to be part of a police station, where drunkards were locked up for the night.
Landlady of The Dungeon Inn, Terri Eccles, who helped organise the tour, said: “The children really enjoyed it. We kept up with the Halloween tradition by creating a very eerie atmosphere, with scary music and creaking doors.
“There’s a real novelty factor when you bring children somewhere like this. We’re definitely going to start doing a tour every year.”
Various refreshments were available at the event, including bangers and mash and toffee apples.
There was also a competition to see which child could mummify their father the fastest, using toilet roll.
A £15 HMV voucher was awarded to the best dressed child.
