A DOG grooming business based in a converted garage is celebrating its second birthday.

The Barking Beauty Boutique is run by 21-year-old Jasmine Standbridge at her parents’ house in Westcombe Drive, Brandlesholme.

It was set up in November 2011 after planning permission was granted to change the use of the garage, and since then due to word of mouth and recommendations, Jasmine has been able to take up the job full time.

She said: “I have always wanted to work with dogs and animals, and this has helped me to achieve that. I just like being able to do completely different things, every single dog is different.”

Jasmine did a spell of work experience at the Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary in Edenfield, which confirmed her desire to work with animals.

Now the business is planning to mark their second anniversary with some special events, and Heather, Jasmine’s mother, says the influx of dogs has not disturbed home life too much.

She said: “The garage has a separate entrance so it is not that bad, there is occasionally some barking but nothing more than if you had a dog yourself.”

Jasmine currently grooms around four to five dogs every day, and has recently given up her job as a lifeguard at Castle Leisure Centre to focus on the business, and she has big plans for the future.

She added: “I want to have something with a variety of facilities for dogs, to keep in with the grooming and maybe some kind of breeding and a dog hotel.”
