A MAN is in a critical condition after a crash in Bury.

At about 10.30pm yesterday, a white Yamaha motorbike was travelling along Bond Street towards the junction with Wash Lane.

It overtook a vehicle and continued into the junction.

At the same time, a silver Toyota Yaris was travelling along Wash Lane towards the same junction, and the two vehicles smashed into each other.

The 23-year-old motorbike rider suffered serious head and chest injuries and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.

Senior investigating officer, Sergeant Danny Byrne, of Bury Police, said: "This man has suffered serious injuries which are thought to be life threatening at this stage and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

"It is important to establish how this collision happened so we are appealing to anyone who may have seen the motorbike immediately beforehand travelling along Bond Street, or the collision itself, to contact police on 0161 856 4745.
