THE Bury Times boys are preparing for a ’tache-tastic November as the team is ditching razors and shaving foam to take part in Movember.

The charity campaign sees the men of the world unite to grow a moustache in 30 days to support men’s health causes.

Staff from the Bury Times, Radcliffe Times and The Bolton News have joined forces to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Other causes supported by Movember include charities fighting testicular cancer and mental health.

Reporter Andrew Bards-ley said: “Movember is more than just a laugh.

“Of course it will be a lot of fun, seeing the guys in the office and maybe poking a bit of fun at whoever grows the worst moustache.

“But I think we are all aware that it is more than a bit of fun — and it’s also more than just raising money. It’s about promoting much-needed awareness about a disease that kills 10,000 men every year.”

Deputy news editor Steven Thompson said: “The results on my face will no doubt be as hilarious as they are pathetic.

“Some of the other chaps in the office appear to be able to grow facial hair at will, so I’m a bit nervous about how bad my attempts will look in comparison.

“My dad was a proud ’tache wearer for years so I’m looking forward to keeping up the family tradition.

“Some of my mates have done Movember in previous years and I know they’ve all had a good laugh about it and raised money for a good cause at the same time, so I’m sure we will do the same.”

Multi-media editor Julian Thorpe said: “I’m often ordered by my wife to have a shave, and now I finally have a genuine excuse to say ‘no’.

“The downside is that for the best part of a month I will look like an idiot, but it’s for a good cause, so I can live with that.”
