A REVELLER drank 10 double brandies and 12 Jägerbombs before biting off a fellow punter’s ear in an unprovoked attack, a court heard.

Fuelled by alcohol, Timothy Deakin, also known as Timothy Tibble, aged 18, launched an attack on victim Luke Chadwick in Pic’s bar in Market Street, Bury, on October 5.

Bolton Crown Court heard prior to the attack he had drunk 10 double brandies with coke and had spent £30 on Jägerbombs, which he bought at two for £5.

Benjamin Myers, prosecuting, told the court Mr Chadwick had been out with friends in Bury town centre when the incident happened in Pic’s bar.

The crime was said to be unprovoked and Mr Chadwick thought Deakin, who was unknown to him, was trying to whisper in his ear when the attack happened. Mr Chadwick suffered a “significant cosmetic disability”, the court heard.

Deakin, who had 26 previous convictions, spat out the piece of ear after the crime. When he was arrested he claimed he was very drunk after drinking in Yates’s in Market Street and GCHQ bar in Silver Street.

He said he could not remember anything except waking up in a police cell. During interview he said he did not know the victim and was very sorry.

Michael Johnson, defending Deakin, said the teenager had experienced a chaotic childhood due to his parents having addiction issues.

Judge Timothy Clayson, sentencing, said: “You had been drinking heavily in Bury and for no apparent reason, with no provocation at all you approached another man with whom had no legitimate grievance at all.

“You sank your teeth into one of his ears and persisted in biting him aggressively until you succeeded in severing a proportion and spat it on the floor.”

Deakin, of Lever Street, Heywood, admitted wounding with intent and was jailed for four years, eight months. He will also pay a £120 victim surcharge.
