TALENTED schoolchildren were given the ideal “shop window” to display their colourful works of art.
For an empty shop unit in the Mill Gate shopping centre acted as a “mini-museum” for three days to feature a whole host of paintings, sculptures and other artwork, all based on the theme of “the rhythm of life.”
Pupils at Bury Church of England High School created the art and visitors were also given the opportunity to make their own contributions to a special patchwork, 3D paper cutting models and to add to a sculpture which was being constructed.
And the event was not solely confined to art but also featured drama and music performances from pupils at the school in Haslam Brow.
Headteacher the Rev Craig Watson said the aim was to give pupils the opportunity to put art into practice outside of the classroom and the school environment and to engage with society and the public.
He added: “It showed how art works in the world. It actually helped them understand how art is used and works within society. And it was also a way of enabling the general public to come in and engage with that. We were also able to welcome the Bishop of Bolton, Chris Edmondson.”
