A STUDENT from Radcliffe has been crowned the new Miss Bury.
Chelsea Edgar, aged 18, will now represent Bury at the Miss England semi-finals in May next year.
The teenager, whose family live in Limefield Road, also won the Miss Popularity Bury title, which was voted for by the public.
Chelsea, who is studying Fine Art at Leeds College of Art, said: “I’m overwhelmed and shocked.
“When my mum and nan found out that I’d won, they started crying.
“My family and friends have been really, really supportive of me and I couldn’t ask for more from them.”
Chelsea has various community events planned before the end of the year, including a neon charity walk for The Christie.
She said: “I intend to do a lot for charity as I believe it’s really important to get involved in the community.”
In the Miss Bury category, Lana Mahmud from Whitefield took second place and Hollie Dunne from Heywood came third.
In the junior Miss Bury category for 13-16 year olds, Georgia Potter, aged 15, from Bury, took the title.
Domenica Biliardi, aged 13, from Rossendale, came second and Katie Fogg, aged 15, from Bury, came third.
Head Judge for Miss Bury, Kerry Capoverde, said: “It was such a hard choice this year, as all the girls were a credit to themselves and their families.
“I think the audience loved it too, they were certainly the noisiest we’ve experienced in a long time.”
The event held at The Met was sponsored by Mill Gate Shopping Centre, and part of the catwalk show was to create an “eco” themed outfit out of recycled materials, which saw Anna-Louise Howarth sport a Bury Times inspired outfit.
