A BURY home appliance showroom sustained £6,000 worth of damage after staff turned up on Monday morning to find a rocket had been fired through its letterbox.
The firework narrowly missed a gas heater inside the premises of Parkhills Kitchens but struck a display unit and fridge and also made a hole in the wall. Now, bosses are being forced to scrap the unit, the fridge, as well as flooring damaged in the attack.
Mrs Carli Keane, sales administrator with the Parkhills Road store which has been trading for 19 years, said: "The rocket missed the gas heater by a foot. If it hadn't, then the whole building would have gone up. The rocket was put through the letterbox. It burned one of the display drawers, went into the back of a fridge unit, made a hole in the wall and damaged flooring."
The type of kitchen display and flooring affected by the blaze can't be replaced and the overall cost of damage is £6,000. The showroom was partially closed on Monday as staff cleaned up. Mrs Keane added: "The shop was open until 3pm on Sunday, so we're quite sure the incident happened that evening. It was only when we came in on Monday that the damage was discovered."
- Four years ago, when vandals attacked the front display window of the premises, management turned the incident to their advantage by putting up a large notice which read: "Our kitchens are so good people are trying to break in for them."
