I was a member of Bury Art Society when L S Lowry was president.
He took a real personal interest, exhibiting with the society and walking around the exhibition talking to people.
This was hard for him as he was quite shy.
I was going around the exhibition with him when a reporter from the Bolton Evening News approached him. He did his best to answer the questions, but then said to me, "You interview me instead. You can give it to him later."
I now live in Cheshire and was appalled to hear that Bury Art Gallery is going to sell their Lowry.
Bury should be glorifying their connections with this great northern painter rather than dishonouring his memory in this shoddy way, RITA RAY
