Protesters took to the track at the Summerseat station try to save their local train service in 1967.
They walked on the line from Bury forcing a train to stop and two of the protester ended up in court as a result.
The group even wrote to the United Nations to try and persuade British Rail to change its mind - and they succeeded, albeit temporarily, with the line being given a six-year reprieve
