WELL-known Bury dog trainer Gordon Salmon is taking the lead in raising funds in memory of Joe Geeling.
Gordon wants dog owners and their pets to join him on a sponsored dog walk on Sunday, November 26. All proceeds will be donated to the Joe Geeling Trust.
The walkies' will be a six-mile circular walk starting at 10am outside Bury Town Hall and taking in Burrs Country Park.
Gordon, who lives in Nelson Street close to Joe's home in Devon Street, said: "Joe, like other local children, knew me as the dog-man. He was always impressed with my Rottweiler, Brando, and I do not ever recall Joe being afraid to say hello to or stroke him. Joe left an impression on myself of being polite and having a very friendly smile. He was a smashing kid.
"The sponsored dog walk is my way of paying tribute to a special young boy whose life was cruelly and suddenly taken away."
Several cars will be on hand with water and snacks for dogs taking part in the walk.
Sponsorship forms are available from the following veterinary practices: Armac and Vets 4 Pets, both in Bury, Bonhams, of Ramsbottom, Pennine, of Tottington, Irvines in Whitefield, and Regans, of Radcliffe.
