FORMER pupils of Stand Grammar School in Whitefield are invited to a centenary dinner later this month.
The event - on Friday, November 24 - will mark 100 years of the Old Standians Association, which was formed in December 1906.
The school has a history dating back to 1688 and the new' Stand Grammar School building opened in Church Lane in 1913. In that time, the establishment has been an all-boys school, then a mixed school and a sixth form college. However in 2000, the building was demolished to make way for housing.
To help celebrate the centenary, the association is inviting all members and non-members, including pupils from Stand Grammar School for Girls, to the meal at the Longfield Suite.
The event starts at 6.30pm and includes a five-course meal for £25. Guest speaker is Dr Geoffrey Barnes, a former headmaster.
To book, contact the association secretary Tony Wilding on (0161) 763 9002 or write to him before November 10 at 21, Spruce Crescent, Limefield Brow, Bury BL9 6QW.
