BURY boss Lee Clark claims to have beaten four other League One clubs to the signing of former Birmingham City and Burton Albion midfielder Callum Reilly.
The 23-year-old made his Championship debut under Clark during his time at St Andrews and said he was eager to work with him again after signing a two-year deal following his release by the Brewers.
Reilly is predominantly a high-energy, box-to-box centre-midfielder, but is naturally left-footed and able to fill in at left full-back or on the left of midfield.
“I am delighted to have secured the services of Callum," said Clark.
"He is a player that I know very well.
"Callum has the attributes to compliment the other midfielders at club and is a powerful, competitive athlete.
"He is also versatile, so we are delighted with this signing as we know there were at least four other clubs in our league chasing his signature.”
Reilly graduated through the Birmingham City academy before making his debut in 2012 under Clark.
He went on to make more than 60 appearances for the Blues in the Championship before joining Burton Albion in March 2015.
Reilly helped push Burton on to promotion to the Championship, but his chances under new manager Nigel Clough were limited and he ended up being loaned to Coventry City last January, where he made 20 appearances.
"I’m extremely happy to get this sorted and cannot wait to get started," said Reilly, who is Clark's fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of striker Jermaine Beckford, midfielder Stephen Dawson and full-back Phil Edwards.
"Obviously, I know the manager very well from my time at Birmingham and cannot wait to play for him again.
"The project the chairman told me about sounds fantastic and it’s something I want to be a part off.
"The manager is building a good squad here and after he showed me around (training base) Carrington I knew that I wanted to be a part of it.
"I cannot see many League One clubs competing with the training facilities we have.”
