A TACTICAL switch from caretaker boss Peter Shirtliff helped to inspire a Bury fightback as they came from two goals down at half-time to earn a point at the Ricoh Arena.
Coventry looked to be coasting after first-half strikes from midfielders Adam Barton and Carl Baker.
But debutant David Healy got the Shakers back in the match with a calmly taken penalty 10 minutes after the break.
And Lenell John-Lewis capped the revival, heading home Joe Skarz’s cross with 22 minutes still to play.
While Bury showed great fight and determination to get themselves back into the game, plaudits have to go to Shirtlifff’s bold substitutions.
The stand-in manager replaced winger Craig Jones with Lateef Elford-Alliyu at half-time, playing the striker in behind the front two to mirror Coventry’s diamond formation.
He then threw on winger Marcus Marshall and switched Healy for John-Lewis, who repaid the favour with a storming display that could easily have brought a winner for Bury and sent the 633 travelling Shakers fans home happy.
