LEE Clark has stepped down as Bury manager, the club has confirmed.
The Shakers boss and assistant manager Alan Thompson have left Gigg Lane with immediate effect following a meeting with chairman Stewart Day earlier thhis evening.
Clark had vowed he was the man to turn the club's fortunes around after fans chanted for his sacking following Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to Doncaster, Bury's fourth straight loss, which left them second bottom in League One.
But it seems the club's directors feel it is time for a change, bringing an end to the Newcastle-born boss's eight months in charge.
A statement released by the club read: "Bury Football Club can confirm that after a meeting between the chairman and Lee Clark, it was decided that Lee would step down as manager with immediate effect.
"As part of the changes Alan Thompson will also leave his role as assistant manager."
Clark was also quoted in the statement as saying: "I have enjoyed my time at Bury enormously and I wish the board, the players and the supporters all the very best for this season and beyond."
