FORMER Shakers striker Wayne Entwistle claims to be spearheading a consortium looking to buy the Shakers.
A group of local businessmen have pledged their support to the 49-year-old's plan to mount a takeover at Gigg Lane.
Entwistle, who owns a farm and meat exporting business, made 129 appearances for Bury, scoring 46 goals in three spells with the club between 1976 and 1988.
He claims to have funds in place which would enable the group to purchase a considerable number of the shares owned by majority holders, the SOS Trust, which was set up in 2002 to help take the club out of administration.
"We are very serious," Entwistle said. "We have not talked about how much they want for the club, but we have looked over the accounts, have the backing and are now talking with our business advisors.
