RADCLIFFE Swimming and Water Polo Club members achieved 19 personal-best times at Swinton in their recent Central Lancashire Intermediate League fixture
Competing against several of the best swimmers in the county, Radcliffe knew they had to produce something special if they were going to come out victorious.
An all-round great team performance was a must and all the swimmers took to the challenge.
In a battle fought to the end, Radcliffe found themselves two points up going into the cannon – the final race of the gala – needing to win to hold on to to the victory.
The grit and determination of the six Radcliffe swimmers in what was a ferociously fought cannon was fantastic. Swinton pushed all the way to the end and timing boards would have struggled to separate the two teams at the finish. The official’s decision was eagerly awaited and it was Radcliffe who were victorious.
The final score saw them win 159-155 – a result that has left them in the top half of table and pushing for promotion to League One.
There is one home gala left in September which should prove to be as hotly-contested.
