NEW signing Harry Bunn says the opportunity of regular football drew him to the Energy Check Stadium from Premier League Huddersfield Town.
The former Manchester City youngster joined the Shakers on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee on Friday.
Originally, Bury had been interested in taking the 24-year-old on loan but when they were made aware that a permanent transfer was available they moved swiftly to complete the deal.
Reports in East Anglia claimed Championship side Ipswich Town were closing in on a £600,000 move for the forward, but a strong relationship between chairman Stewart Day, manager Lee Clark and Huddersfield owner Dean Hoyle allowed Bury to jump the queue and complete the signing at a reduced price.
Bunn was registered after the 12pm deadline last Friday and was therefore unable to play any part in the opening-day victory against Walsall.
However, he will be available for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Sunderland – and he cannot wait to get going.
“Once I spoke to the manager he said all the right things,” Bunn said. “When I met the chairman on Friday he backed everything up for me. It was an easy decision. I’m coming here to play football, that’s what I want to do.
“I didn’t play as many games as I would have liked to last season so hopefully this year I can get a few games.”
Bunn scored 15 goals in 91 appearances for the Terriers – all of which came during a three-year spell in the Championship.
After helping David Wagner’s side clinch a shock promotion to the top flight last year, he is hoping to have similar success with the Shakers.
“There were a few options for me but I believe Bury was the right decision,” Bunn added.
“Fingers crossed we can prove people wrong and go on and get promoted.
“When I looked around the changing room the players that are here are probably Championship-standard players.
“I think if we can all click then there’s no reason why we can’t get in the top six and maybe even further.
“I think it’s achievable and I think, if it’s achievable, then it should be our aim.”
