SHWAN Jalal believes a settled family – on and off the pitch – will be crucial to his future success at Bury.
The 31-year-old stopper, pictured, has revealed the level of his commitment to a summer move from the south coast, inspired by a meeting with Shakers manager David Flitcroft.
He convinced the former Spurs trainee to move his wife and two young children up with him from Bournemouth, and despite enduring an up-and-down start to his life at the JD Stadium, the welcome they have received has given Jalal a real boost.
“One of the first things when I met the manager was he wanted me to move my family up because he believes families are vital part of it,” said the Kurdish-born keeper, who was signed as Bury’s number one but found himself on the sidelines until recently after injury saw him lose his place to Rob Lainton.
“That’s exactly what I have done. Now it is settled. I have obviously had a tough time, coming out of the team, and I have had to bide my time, but I am eager to get my claws into it.
“I have had to be patient, but I feel like I am in my prime as a goalkeeper and have got some success left in me and want to do it with Bury.”
Jalal has enjoyed three promotions in his career, two with his last club Bournemouth under Eddie Howe. And he sees a team set up to repeat that kind of success.
“Nobody wants to hide away. Everybody is chomping at the bit to win a place in the team and that is key. It just has that feeling about it,” he added.
