A POSTMASTER has re-lived the horrifying moment a robber pointed a gun at his head.

Hamid Dor was working at Brandlesholme Road Post Office in Bury at 12.15pm on Saturday when two men burst in through the front door, one brandishing a silver handgun.

The gunman pointed the weapon at Mr Dor and ordered him to let them pass to the other side of the counter and to open the safe.

Mr Dor told them he could not open the safe within 10 minutes because of a security mechanism. A second raider then used a weapon he had hidden in a bin liner to smash the counter glass and climb through. The cool-headed postmaster sounded the emergency alarm as the men searched the shop for cash then fled with a small amount.

Mr Dor, who has been running the family business for 13 years, said: “It was a traumatic experience that really hit me hard.

“I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It was such a horrible experience.

“Physically, I’m unharmed, but psychologically, I feel like I’m all over the place. It takes a while to sink in that someone held a gun to your head. I have no idea if it was loaded.”

He continued: “We’ve never had a robbery here before and it’s something you hear about occasionally but you’d never expect it to happen to you.

“I’m just glad I managed to sound the alarm. They seemed to panic after that and ran off with a bit of cash.”

Police forensic experts carried out a detailed search of the post office for clues on Saturday and workers came in to repair the service counter window on Monday.

The post office has re-opened.

Mr Dor added: “I would sincerely like to thank all my customers and members of the public for their messages of support.

“The phone has been ringing almost non-stop with people worried about me and I’ve even received a couple of greetings cards wishing me well. They have been wonderful.”

The gunman was described as aropund 5ft 9in, of slim to medium build, and was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up, a black balaclava and grey tracksuit bottoms.

His accomplice was described as being of similar height, and wore a black motorcycle helmet with white stripes down the middle, a long-sleeved dark top and black bottoms.
