THREE refuse workers escaped injury after their bin wagon was ravaged by fire.
Firefighters tackled the blaze which happened in Stand Lane, Radcliffe, when the wagon was en route to Bury Council’s Bradley Fold depot.
Officials of the Unite union claimed that earlier, when the wagon was in Salford, the driver reported oil running onto the vehicle’s exhaust pipe. They say he was asked to return to Bradley Fold.
It is believed that the blaze, which engulfed the cab section, was caused as a result of the oil leak.
No one was injured after the three-man crew jumped to safety.
A spokesman for Bury Council said they had launched an investigation into the incident.
