Alex and Jennifer Scott have been playing escape rooms for more than five years, completing more then 200 in their quest to find the best one.

They enjoyed them so much and had so many ideas that they decided to take the plunge in 2018 and open one themselves.

They opened Compendium Escape Rooms in 2018 after finding a location in Crompton Street in Bury and they have four different themed rooms.

These include a horror themed room, loosely based on chainsaw massacre, a laboratory room where you save the world from an unknown disease, an asylum cell room where you uncover secret about the room and the award-winning UI55 submarine room, where you have to sneak on board to collect all the loot.

The UI55 room is the newest room, opening in July 2020 and it has been voted the best in the north and the third best in the UK by escape room enthusiasts.

During the first lockdown they had to close but they opened again in August 2020 but then had to endure another lockdown in October 2020.

Alex said: “We got loads of love between the lockdowns and since we reopened in July 2021 it’s just gone crazy.”

Alex explained his shock when he found out about the award himself and Jennifer both had no idea.

They had a couple of enthusiasts that came to play all four rooms in one day from Watford, who told them it had been voted in the top 10 which is why they made the journey to see for themselves.

The next day they received a certificate through the post from the Escape The Review directory and rating site.

Alex said that they saw there were so many comments and likes on the site.

“We then got a booking from Norway and another from Sweden, so it’s gone a bit international, it’s crazy.”
