FIREFIGHTERS were called out this afternoon after a car's engine caught fire.
The incident happened at the junction of Branch Road and Lumb Carr Road, in Holcombe, shortly after 1pm.
The people in the car had evacuated it after smelling burning.
The fire was contained to the car's engine compartment, and crews used a hose reel to extinguish it. The vehicle was later recovered.
Rick Taylor, watch manager at Bury Fire Station, said: "When we arrived, we could see a small area burning under the driver's wheel. We do not know what caused it."
