MORE than 300 dogs turned out in fancy dress for a family-friendly event at Heaton Park in aid of a children's hospice.
Pooches donned their best outfits for the first ever Bark in the Park, arriving as dinopaws, a guitarist, McDonald's mascot, a hot dog, bride and groom and more.
Heaton Park was filled with families who helped raised thousands of pounds for Forget Me Not Children's Hospice's new site in Radcliffe at the event on Sunday, April 22.
Judging the dog show was the Malone family, who star on Gogglebox, who attended Heaton Park with their beloved pooch Dave.
Molly Robbins from Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers made a show-stopping royal canine-themed cake for the event.
The cake was presented to 13-year-old Olivia Benn from South Kirkby, who has a complex heart condition, and is receiving care at Forget Me Not's Huddersfield hospice. Olivia has also been chosen to attend the royal wedding in May.
Kirsty Franks, general manager of Forget Me Not’s Children’s Hospice in Radcliffe, said: "At Forget Me Not we believe in 'the magic of yes' and when we found out one of our children was going to the royal wedding we knew we had to mark the occasion in a unique way.
"Extreme Cake Maker Molly lives in Rossendale which is not too far from our new children’s hospice in Dumers Lane, Radcliffe.
"With the queen being such a lover of Corgis, we wanted an elaborate, show-stopping cake that would tie in with our Bark in the Park event and celebrate Olivia being chosen to attend Harry and Meghan’s wedding."
As well as stalls and entertainment for children, the charity put on activities for dogs including dog agility, flyball and a dog show — including a category for best dog in fancy dress, which was judged by Julie and Tom Malone, from Stretford.
Extreme Cake Maker Molly Robbins, aged 27 from Rossendale, said: "Anyone who watches the show will know my speciality is designing and making animal-themed cakes – and I love dogs in particular.
"When I heard about the wonderful work Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice does I wanted to support the charity somehow.
"With one of their children going to Harry and Meghan’s wedding it was the perfect opportunity to create a cake inspired by Queen Elizabeth and her beloved Corgis."
Forget Me Not Children's Hospice has already launched its hospice at home service and is aiming to open the doors to its Radcliffe site — Grace's Place — in October this year.
