LEON Barnett and new signing James Vaughan's first goals for Bury set up Danny Mayor to complete an unbelievable comeback at Walsall.
Kieron Morris, Erhun Oztumer and Simeon Jackson all scored for the home side in a disastrous first half.
But Barnett and debutant Vaughan pulled two goals back in as many second-half minutes before Mayor blasted in the leveller 23 minutes from time.
The Shakers came the closest to scoring a winner through Vaughan, who made a big impression in his first game for the club.
But after a terrible first half, Bury's gutsy fightback at least earned them a welcome point - even if David Flitcroft's men may have left Walsall feeling they deserved more.
Flitcroft made three changes to the side that lost to neighbours Oldham last week.
Striker Vaughan made his debut following his transfer from Birmingham City, replacing Tom Pope, who dropped to the bench.
Niall Maher was handed his first start in place of the injured Kelvin Etuhu, while Hallam Hope replaced Jacob Mellis.
Bury got off to a horrendous a start when Morris converted Andreas Makris' cut back inside six minutes.
The Shakers almost responded instantly but Vaughan headed wide from Zeli Ismail's cross.
In the 14th minute Maher was dispossessed by Oztumer in the middle of the park and the midfielder advanced unchallenged before drilling a 25-yard shot into the bottom corner.
Bury went straight on the offensive again with Mayor creating a pocket of space on the edge of the box but Neil Etheridge saved his fierce drive, before Hope was also denied after cutting in from the left.
With the Shakers trailing by two goals, the Bury boss rolled the dice early and introduced Pope for Maher.
But they fell further behind when Jackson beat Ben Williams to a Makris cross to prod the ball into the net.
A mistake from skipper Antony Kay in the 35th minute allowed Jackson the freedom of goal, but the Shakers stopper denied the striker with a fine save.
Greg Leigh was the next to gift the forward a golden opportunity, but again Williams came to the rescue.
Flitcroft introduced Mellis at half time, with Hope making way.
And the Bury boss could not have imagined a better start to the second half.
First an Ismail corner landed at the feet of Barnett, who drilled the ball into the top corner in the 47th minute.
A minute later the centre-back headed a lofted cross down for Vaughan who fired into the bottom corner on the turn to put the Shakers within touching distance.
In the 67th minute the moment arrived. Ismail swung a tantalising cross into the box from the right, which was headed out as far as Mayor, who blasted it straight into the top corner to send the 310 travelling fans behind the goal into raptures.
Debutant Vaughan was inches away from making himself an instant Bury hero with a shot on the turn that flashed over the crossbar.
Williams was called into one more superb save two minutes from time when he plucked Morris' free kick out as it arrowed towards the top corner.
It was Bury who continued to ask the questions late on but overall a much-improved second half earned a hard-fought point.
