THE FUNERAL of a 28-year-old dad of two who died in a tragic accident is set to take place tomorrow.
Matthew James Drummond, of Linden Avenue, Ramsbottom, died in Middleton on Wednesday, April 8 in what police described as a "work-related accident".
Shortly before 2.30pm on that day, officers were called to farmland off Heywood Old Road.
Police and paramedics found Mr Drummond suffering from serious injuries.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man, aged 67, was injured during the incident and was allowed home after being treated in hospital.
Mr Drummond was self-employed and traded under the business title of M Drummond Plant, which specialises in construction machinery hire and stone delivery.
A former Woodhey High School pupil, Mr Drummond leaves his wife Claire, children Asa and Molly, parents Sandra and Colin, and sister Kathryn.
His funeral is due to take place at Edenfield Parish Church at 12.30pm tomorrow.
Loved ones have asked for donations to be made to Asa and Molly's trust fund in lieu of funeral flowers.
In a statement, the family said: "Matthew's death has left us all devastated.
"Matthew was a hardworking man who loved to work outdoors.
"He was always happy to be working with machines and we take some comfort from the fact that he died doing what he loved.
"Matthew was a loving dad to his children and a fantastic husband, son and brother.
"Matthew refused to grow up, he was always the joker and he loved life. We will all miss him forever.
"The family would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support and would now like some time to grieve privately and remember Matthew."
A joint investigation between Greater Manchester Police and the Health and Safety Executive is ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Mr Drummond's death.
A formal inquest was opened at Rochdale Coroner's Court in Heywood on April 21 and was adjourned until June 23 when a pre-inquest hearing review on May 23.
