A MAN has died after suffering a heart attack at a bus stop in Bury.

Fire crews from Bury were returning from a job when they saw a man, thought to be in his 60s, slumped at a bus stop in Radcliffe Road.

A member of the public had called the emergency services and was performing CPR on the man. Firefighters then used their training to provide additional CPR.

The man, from the Bury area, was taken to Fairfield hospital but was pronounced dead in the resuscitation area.

Crew manager from Bury station, Karl Grindrod said: “We did our best to help and always aim to give our all to help people but unfortunately it was not to be.

“We believe the man may have suffered a heart attack about five minutes beforehand and while we hoped he had been given a chance we were later told that sadly he had died.

“I would like to praise the actions of a passer-by who phoned the ambulance and provided CPR which gave the man a fighting chance.”
